Our friends at Panel and State got in-touch to tell us about two upcoming events in Glasgow. Panel have organised an exhibition/ongoing letterpress workshop with the very talented Edwin Pickstone (more info here…), and to coincide with that State are putting on a talk with Edwin, David Bellingham, Jamie Kenyon and Neil McGuire (more info here…).
Both look great, we’ll be there hope you will be too.

Our very kind friends over at LAVA Amsterdam got in touch to tell us about a week long SummerSchool they’re running this year.
It’s open to designers of all levels in the industry, as well as studying or recently graduated students, giving you the opportunity to work and learn from one of the best agencies in Europe and get the ‘Dutch Design Experience™’ first hand. Plus drink’s, BBQ’s and much more besides.
If you attended the talk they gave for us back at the start of the month, i’m sure you’ll agree, this is an amazing opportunity!
Full details are below, for more information email: study[at]lava.nl

After a quiet start to the year (apologies for that) we’ve decided to go Dutch for our next event – with both the speaker and the poster.
Event 42:
LAVA
Thursday 5th May 2011
Glasgow School of Art

Lava, European Design Agency of the Year no less, are based in Amsterdam and will be entertaining the LongLunch faithful with stories of flexible identities, Design v’s Art, and how you run a successful agency without account managers. Should be, very, very good.
Their poster (images to follow) entitled ‘MADE POSSIBLE BY’ promotes both the talk and pays homage to our event sponsors, without whom we couldn’t do any of this – this time round it’s GF Smith, Harvey Llyods and IT Department – Thanks guys! (and of course all our previous sponsors).

Apologies to all who (if indeed anyone does) subscribe to this blog, we’ve been quieter than a bunch of alter boys in a library. We’re still in the process of organising this years events, so no news on that front, but we are being featured in an article in the upcoming issue of The Drum.
Some of the pictures that go with that article are shown here, taken by the super-talented, award winning photographer Gordon Burniston. All the images are of the limited edition posters, designed by the speakers, produced to promote each event – each one very different but all stunning in their own right.

Thanks to Gordon Burniston for taking the shots, Gordon Laing for organising it, our Rufus for setting the whole thing up, and of course all our speakers for designing such great posters and our print sponsors for producing them.

Every now and again we at LongLunch get access to a legend; Peter Saville, Ian Anderson, Jonathan Barnbrook and Adrian Shaughnessy to name a few. To land a former president of the D&AD, CSD and a CBE to boot is a bit of a coup though.
I remember being introduced to Rodney Fitch’s work when I was still at school. My father was commissioning a rebrand and he had been sent Fitch’s latest introduction booklet. Perfect bound containing pretty much every major brand I had ever heard of it, was carried with me from agency to agency for years.
Fitch’s career started before most of the LongLunch audience were even born and it is a testament to design that he has been recognised in so many arenas for his services to design.
To close out 2010 with such a massive contributor to design and the arts is a big thing for us at LongLunch. So grab your tickets because this is a biggy. http://longlunch.bigcartel.com/
See you there.

We’d like to say a big ‘thank you’ and ‘hello’ to our new print sponsor BARNHAUS.
Thanks to them you’ll continue to receive free posters for the forthcoming events this year (UVA@The Design Museum, FITCH@The ECA) and hopefully into next.
So if you’re needing any screen-printing done, why not give them a shout.
