I recently read that the Yale University Press are leaving behind their iconic Paul Rand marque in favour of a newer look. Personally it really saddens me to see Rand’s work slowly being consigned to history. Mostly because I don’t think that most of the replacements are as considered as the originals.

Certainly UPS and ABC have evolved their marques over time, and this in my mind has shown the greatness of Rand’s work where each one has been moved on without losing all of the original’s simplicity. However in the case of Yale University Press I think they are losing a great marque to what looks like an anonymous piece of type.
